Recycled nylon engine covers using the ends of the ground fabric from airbags
We recycled the ends of airbag fabric made of nylon 6 for mass production of surge tanks. However, only 10% or less of the ends produced annually was recycled because of their limited applicability. Consequently, we developed a new recycling technology to regenerate the ends of the ground fabric of airbags as products with high added value. In addition to the existing technology, the material was modified in order to satisfy the strength, durability, moldability, and appearance required for engine covers. The performance of the recycled nylon engine covers is equal to or better than that of products made entirely of conventional nylon6. |
