[Representative Products]
The Safety Systems Business Unit develops and improves a steering
wheel, the interface between a driver and a car, and an airbag system
using its many years of expertise. Steering wheels produced with our
technological know-how in the field are marketed all over the world.
TG develops and mass-produces a variety of supplemental restraint
systems (SRS) - airbags for driver and passenger seats and knees,
which protect the heads and chests of occupants in a front collision,
and side and curtain shield airbags to prevent injury in a side collision.
[Technological Themes]
Active safety means preventing an accident and collision
beforehand while a passive safety device, an airbag, is
one of the supplemental restraint systems to ease impact against an
occupant in a collision.
TG started a joint technological business with Tokai Rika Co., Ltd.
in November 2001 to develop a new safety system with an airbag and
a seatbelt combined. One of the achievements is pre-crash safety
system introduced to a new model of Harrier, which has been
marketed since February 2003. It senses a collision with millimeter-wave
radar before it occurs and tightens an occupant with a seatbelt to
restrain him just before the crash, so that impact against him can
be alleviated.
TG will continue to work on multiple development themes to meet diversifying
needs such as improved safety, the development of the next generation
safety devices, and more sophisticated designs. |
