Kiyosu, Japan, January 13, 2026: Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd.’s rear side airbag, one of the company’s safety system products, will be used by Subaru Corporation as safety equipment on two passenger vehicle models (Impreza and Crosstrek).

Side airbags deploy instantaneously between the door and passenger during collisions from the side, reducing the impact to the chest and abdomen of passengers. Rear airbags are installed in the rear seat of the two models to enhance safety performance further, considering the traffic environment in North America where many large vehicles are operating. Toyoda Gosei improved the design so that the airbag can be installed in the limited space of the rear seat and has the bag thickness necessary for protection with greater compactness (approximately one third smaller) than front side airbags.

Toyoda Gosei will continue contributing to a reduction in the number of traffic fatalities through the spread of safety products and the development of new products.
