Enhances vehicle interiors with moving light
Toyoda Gosei Develops Dynamic Shadowy Illumination
Kiyosu, Japan, January 8, 2026: Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd. has developed an LED lamp unit that projects moving patterned light in vehicle interiors. This product is used on the Lexus RZ1 battery electric vehicle from Toyota Motor.
To enhance vehicle interiors, in recent years there has been rising demand for illumination connected to music or sensors such as approach notification. To meet such needs, Toyoda Gosei has leveraged its original optical engineering technology in developing illumination that incorporates delicate pattern plates into LED lamps and projects vivid light images in vehicle interiors. The company has now achieved simple animated expressions of graceful light on the interior door by switching between three lamps. This contributes to the creation of interior spaces that are relaxing and comfortable.
The Lexus RZ also uses a new type of steering wheel developed by Toyoda Gosei, a “steering wheel for steer-by-wire systems”2 that is compatible with next-generation steering systems.
1 Used on Version L, F SPORT.
2 Used on F SPORT. With steer-by-wire systems that control the tire angle with electronic signals, multiple rotations of the steering wheel are not required when making U-turns or parking, and so a shape similar to that of an airplane yoke is adopted.
