Toyoda Gosei Airbag Used for First Time by Chinese Automaker
Kiyosu, Japan, January 23, 2026: Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd.’s curtain airbag, one of the company’s safety systems, has been adopted for use on the LS9 from Chinese luxury BEV brand IM Motors. This is the first time a Toyoda Gosei airbag has been used by a Chinese automaker.
Curtain airbags reduce impacts to the head by instantaneously deploying to cover the window during side collisions. The airbag used on the LS9 is more compact (15% smaller) than previous models while maintaining a protective performance that meets Chinese new car assessment program (C-NCAP) criteria. Computer-aided engineering* (CAE) technology was also leveraged during product design to satisfy the speedy development needs of Chinese automakers.
China is the world’s largest automobile market, with fierce competition from the spread of electric vehicles and the emergence of new automotive manufacturers. Toyoda Gosei sustains a competitive-edge in its safety systems there, so the company is strengthening its development capacity for this business. Through the continuing provision of products that meet customer needs, the company aims to become a supplier of choice in China.
