Kiyosu, Japan, May 29, 2026: Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd.’s LIN¹-supported interior full color illumination unit and knee airbag are used on the new model CX-5 from Mazda Motor Corporation. These products are outlined below.

1. LIN-supported interior full color illumination unit

With advances in autonomous driving and other technologies in recent years, expectations are growing for in-vehicle lighting that serves a wide range of advanced roles beyond traditional décor and brightness, including alert notifications and the creation of pleasing interior spaces. To meet these needs, Toyoda Gosei has developed an illumination unit equipped with LIN communication functionality. LIN communication is widely used in automotive systems and offers a high degree of freedom in installation due to its simple wiring structure. However, its slow communication speed has made it unsuitable for complex lighting effects that require large amounts of data. In Toyoda Gosei’s new illumination unit, smooth and sophisticated lighting effects have been made possible by refining the software control.

These units are also designed to meet future needs, such as lighting that blends flowing light movements with color in emotionally appealing ways. Toyoda Gosei will continue to enhance added value by integrating electronic components in its products, contributing to the creation of pleasant and dependable mobility spaces.

2. Knee airbag

Knee airbags support the legs during frontal collisions to prevent occupants from being thrown forward by the impact and help them maintain a safer posture. The knee airbag used in the new model CX-5 was designed by Toyoda Gosei and is manufactured by Group company Ashimori Industry.²

Ashimori Industry became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Toyoda Gosei in March 2026, and the two companies are pursuing synergies in development, design, sales, procurement and production. Going forward, the companies will seek to maximize the benefits of this integration and contribute to reducing the number of traffic casualties.

Toyoda Gosei technology contributes to achieving the aim of the new CX-5 as a car that supports a comfortable drive through the improved interior space and usability with ride comfort and allows all occupants to enjoy driving in safety and security.
