Toyoda Gosei Invests in ElevationSpace, a Startup Developing Space Transportation Systems
Kiyosu, Japan, June 19, 2026: Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd. has invested in ElevationSpace, Inc., a startup out of Tohoku University that develops artificial satellites that can return to the earth, centered around its atmospheric reentry technology.
ElevationSpace aims to build round-trip space transportation systems that will support transportation of crew and cargo in space and earth orbit. It provides end-to-end services from the development to the operation of small satellites. The small satellites developed by ElevationSpace utilize special materials that can withstand the high heat of atmospheric reentry and return safely to the earth. This will increase the frequency at which research results from outer space are brought back to the earth, and is expected to contribute to the acceleration of space development.
As the automobile industry goes through profound changes beyond traditional industrial boundaries, Toyoda Gosei is exploring new fields that are not tied to the company’s existing business with the aim of sustainable growth. The space-related business being advanced by ElevationSpace is expected to grow in the coming years, and Toyoda Gosei, always on the lookout for fields where the company’s technology can be leveraged, has invested in ElevationSpace to enhance knowledge in this field.
* Investment made in June 2026 through Toyoda Gosei's Corporate Venture Capital Dept., an internal organization dedicated to these investments.
