Toyoda Gosei Develops Automated Sewing Technology for Automotive Interiors

JP Ver.

Kiyosu, Japan, July 24, 2026: Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd. has developed production technology for automation of the sewing process for the outer surface of automotive interior products.

Invisible and exposed stitches* significantly affect appearance in sewing processes, and need to be made with great precision. Automatic sewing of flat fabric is common, but sewing of flexible outer layers into three-dimensional shapes requires fine control of the movement of the needle and target materials. Because of this, such sewing has always been done by skilled workers. This work has now been automated through improvements of the sewing machine, fixture, and control software. The resulting automation minimizes variability in sewing precision and enables a more uniform finish.

Toyoda Gosei plans to introduce this technology globally to further raise its manufacturing competitiveness.

* Invisible stitches: Stitches that join materials from the back of the outer material
Exposed stitches: Stitches the provide both decoration of the outer surface and strength

Previous:Materials are sewn while aligning by hand, New:Outer material is set in a fixture and sewn automatically
